MTS brings 3G to Moscow district
Mobile operator MTS has launched a 3G network in the Moscow district towns of Orekhovo-Zuevo and Noginsk, and has expanded its indoor coverage of the 3G service in Moscow city. The network is now accessible to users in the Lotte Plaza business centre and the Crocus City shopping mall.
Residents of Orekhovo-Zueva and Noginsk now have at their disposal mobile internet at up to 3.6 Mbit/s.
By the end of summer, MTS promises to introduce 3G coverage in 35 of the city’s largest business centres, in a selection of popular public places and even in a number of subterranean locations – selected stations of the city’s sprawling metro network.

MTS acquired its 2.1 GHz 3G licences for Moscow and the surrounding district on May 8th, 2008. By May 25th they had already completed the first phase of their indoor coverage strategy, connecting Expocentre on Krasnaya Presna.
The oprator’s 3G network currently extends to 32 cities across the country, from the Far East to North West. By the end of 2009 MTS hopes to build and expand networks in more than 40 Russian cities, with investment for the year 2008 – 2009 standing at around $700 million.
